TOGAF states that an ‘Enterprise’ is any collection of organisations identifiable by a common set of goals. The architecture of an enterprise is defined as the primary organization of that enterprise, embodied in its components, their relationships within the environment, and the principles governing their design and evolution.

As the formal description of the enterprise it is the suitably organized and detailed plan of the components of the enterprise. TOGAF considers four vital domains of architecture across that plan: Business, Data, Applications and Technology. TOGAF course is aimed at people who already may have some knowledge of Enterprise Architecture, perhaps through using TOGAF 8 or other architecture frameworks or individuals who have been exposed to IT strategy and change programmes.

This part provides a high-level introduction to the major concepts of enterprise architecture and in particular the TOGAF approach. It contains the definitions of terms used throughout TOGAF and release notes. It describes the TOGAF Architecture Development Method (ADM) - a step-by-step approach to building up the enterprise architecture.

TOGAF course contains a collection of guidelines and techniques available for use in applying TOGAF and the TOGAF ADM.

The following highlights the formation of the course:

1. Development of an EA Strategy

2. Development of the EA Operating Models

3. Balanced scorecards and strategy maps within EA

4. Using systemic thinking to direct your enterprise architecture efforts

5. Frameworks and how to use Zachman to assist change

6. Change management for business and EA

7. Developing and improving business models in the business architecture phase

8. Building line of site through enterprise, solutions and application architecture

TOGAF, an Open Group Standard, is an established enterprise architecture methodology and framework used by the world’s leading organizations to enhance business efficiency. It is the most famous and reliable enterprise architecture standard, ensuring reliable standards, methods, and communication among enterprise architecture professionals. Enterprise
architecture professionals fluent in TOGAF standards enjoy greater industry credibility, job effectiveness, and career opportunities. TOGAF helps practitioners avoid being locked into proprietary methods, exploit resources more efficiently and effectively, and realize a greater return on investment.

All groups of stakeholders in the enterprise will have security concerns. These concerns might not be obvious as security-related concerns unless there is particular awareness on the part of the IT architect. It is advantageous to bring a security architect into the project as early as possible. In TOGAF 9, throughout the phases of the ADM, guidance will be offered on security-specific information which should be garnered, steps which should be taken, and artifacts which should be created.

Architecture decisions related to security, like all others, should be traceable to business and policy decisions, which should derive from a risk analysis.

The knowledge academy makes Business Transformation effective and efficient through a repeatable capability-based planning and implementation process by linking your strategic requirements to your project outcomes through the integration of innovation, planning, architecture, program management, delivery and value management
